With the success of Marvel Entertainment and it’s movies (this next year alone we have Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity Wars, AND Ant Man and the Wasp), Fox seems to have taken a backseat with it’s own Marvel lineup. Of course, we have seen the success of Logan and Deadpool, but beyond that? The last X-Men movie fell flat on it’s ass, and the Fantastic Four was an incredible disaster. But, with the success that Logan and Deadpool there was actual hope as well.
Josh Boone was given the reigns of The New Mutants, and being an avid comic book reader I had mixed expectations. Some of the best books came from the New Mutants, but also some of the most boring. The lineup of Miraj, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball, and Magik is pretty badass especially with Maisie Williams (Arya from Game of Thrones) playing Wolfsbane, and Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers from Stranger Things) playing Cannonball. But we needed a trailer. And we got one.
This is probably the first time I saw a horror based super hero (anti hero?) movie and I’m hooked. Between the Pink Floyd cover and the dark tones, I never realized I needed this mix of genres. Obviously there is more to the story, but this was a perfect blend of tease and small reveals. We didn’t see any real powers yet and no villain either. We have the amazing Alice Braga and some voiceover and poof – wait till April.
