It’s that time of year folks. That time when if you are a sneaker fan your soul is no longer yours; the time when its owned by the brands, and you have no choice but to comply. The holiday season is always stacked with some truly great releases, which include having some of the greatest themes and shoes we have waited on for years. This year is no different as we are currently being hit with a flurry of punches as far as releases go – but this flurry is not an average flurry. This flurry may be the equivalent to Ivan Drago’s two round dominance of Apollo Creed. And, while we have come to expect and eagerly anticipate this from Nike every year, some others are throwing their hats in the ring with viable work to say the least.
We have just literally kicked off the holiday season as far as the shopping extravaganzas go, but the sneaker world is heating up for one of its most anticipated releases. The Black Friday release from Nike has been something that is a necessary pickup for many recent years. The shoe is announced in the early roadmap of releases that normally comes out in first quarter. There are rarely surprises around what we are getting on that date due to the product shots leaking much earlier than the shoe. Its normally a fan favorite Retro that hasn’t come out in some years and this year is no different, Nike and Jordan brand have brought back one of my most beloved silhouettes, and in one of its greatest colorways. But, honestly this article isn’t just about that shoe or Black Friday releases. This is actually me talking about what has just gone under the radar for a lot of you and over many people’s heads at the same time.
This week has been EASILY the greatest week for sneakers of the year. The worst part about it is you may have missed it, or even worse you didn’t even realize it. You all know I am far from one to exaggerate and I am quick to call it how it is. But, I am also quick to give credit where it’s due. If we are being honest, this has been a decent year for sneakers at best. There have been a lot of solid drops, but from the glance of things not so many must-haves for people. But, we are past that, we are in the now and what’s going on in the future. And, with the now, this week has been insane. We have the Jordan Black Friday release, three colorways of Yeezy 350s, three different NikeLab releases, a new Kobe signature, two pairs of BAPE x Adidas NMD, a new Adidas NMD XR1 pack, a new Nike SB from the box pack, a legendary pair of Foamposites, a sequel to a Reebok Collab, and Monday releases include a Jordan 1, as well as another Reebok Collab. I’m not sure many of you took the time to really look at what just happened around us. With all that’s going on in the world I am sure it’s easy to overlook the beauty and joys of life. I am by no way saying sneakers are going to save the world, but shoes have bridged cultures as a very common love across ages and races. This is a time as a sneaker enthusiast I say must be appreciated. We just witnessed greatness and WE’RE NOT WORTHY.
This week released twenty-two different shoes that are arguably ALL must-haves. I have gotten calls and texts right and left for literally every pair I just spoke on. We have addressed saturation many times, but this is the single time of year where it’s acceptable. I would bet money that we don’t see another set of releases like this for a long time. I truly think something special just happened and I highly suggest you get to looking up these pairs if you aren’t familiar with them. This is what we have been asking for and the most important part is we have to remain grateful. With barbershop and watercooler talk for enthusiasts being that sneakers are beginning to become watered down, we get THIS. A barrage of greatness, of variety, from all directions. The Brands are on their A-Game and are looking to break our pockets and astound us at the same time. I came into this week with my eyes on ten of the shoes, and at the moment I haven’t struck out yet. To say the least as a consumer, and supporter of it all I am extremely pleased and looking forward to the close of 2016 as well as what’s to come in 2017.
