Argentina in 7 Days

Argentina is a vast and varied country. To visit it all in a week is nearly impossible, but you can hit the hotspots. The must-visit spots include Buenos Aires, the Valdes Peninsula, and Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego. There is so much more so Argentina, but if you only have a week, here’s how to squeeze it all in.

Day one of your Argentina tour, fly into Buenos Aires airport, then transfer to your Buenos Aires hotel. You may want to just relax in your hotel, or you may want to head out on the town to enjoy the delicious food, such as the famous Argentinean barbeque lamb and empanadas, and wash it down with a delicious glass of Argentinean wine.

Day two, head out to tour the city. Known as the “Paris of South America”, Buenos Aries has a romantic feel.  As you walk thru the streets, notice the European architecture.   Some places to visit are; the National Congress Parliament building, the Plaza de Mayo, the Casa Rosada Government House, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Cabildo Colonial City Hall  For lunch, visit Recoleta to browse the boutiques, gourmet restaurants, and sidewalk cafes. In the evening, enjoy a porteña, a dinner and tango dancing show, in one of the most exclusive tango houses, the Esquina Carlos Gardel, in the Abasto neighborhood.

Day three fly to Puerto Madryn.  There is a spectacular wildlife preserve and scuba diving center on the Valdes Peninsula.  Be sure to get a hotel with a seaside view, as there is a good chance that you may spot one of the rarest whales in the world, the southern right whales from your window.  They come very close to the shore at some points in the year.  Rest in town or perhaps venture out along Puerto Madryn’s downtown shops.

Day four of your Argentina tour will be a tour of the Valdes Peninsula. After breakfast in your hotel, head to Puerto Piramides in the Valdes Peninsula natural reserve. There are plenty of nature walks to choose from. There is an interpretation center, sea lion and sea elephant colony, salt lakes, and a lighthouse that are all worth your time. Between June and December, you can also take a whale watching tour.

Day five,  you will want to head to Ushuaia, one of the most remote and most beautiful locations in Argentina’s wild Patagonia. Ushuaia is the most southern city in the world. In the morning of day five, fly from Valdes Peninsula airport to Ushuaia airport, then transfer to your Ushuaia hotel. There are many hotels to choose from, some of which are located right on the Beagle Channel.

Day six, tour Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Beagle Channel. Have breakfast in your hotel, and then take a tour of the national park, which is 240 acres of beautiful, wild, and rugged landscape. Next you will take a cruise of the Beagle Channel, landing at one of the Bridge Islands. The views from here are spectacular, and you can see both Argentina and Chile.

Day seven, you can either extend your vacation by flying to El Calafate to see the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier and enjoy various glacier treks, or you can finish your Argentina tour by heading home.
