Vintage flows: "For the Love of Biggie, a Wine Review"

“It was all a dream
I used to read Word Up magazine
Salt’n’Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine
Hangin’ pictures on my wall
Every Saturday Rap Attack, Mr. Magic, Marley Marl
I let my tape rock ’til my tape popped
Smokin’ weed and bamboo, sippin’ on private stock”
-Notorious B.I.G., Juicy

In this review of one of the greatest wines I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking, “For the Love of it All”, a Californian Syrah, I’ll be paying tribute to one of the greatest rappers I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing, Christopher Wallace, AKA the Notorious B.I.G.

It’s ironic that I’m Going Back to Cali, as this legendary wine was made in California. Which happens to be where Biggie’s life came to an end. But, perhaps it’s appropriate. I mean, it would be hard for a wine like this to be produced in New York, even in Brooklyn’s Finest soil.

I Got a Story to Tell about this bottle. A guest of mine brought this wine in for dinner one night. He brought 2 of these bottles, actually. The first one he drank with his wife and friend during their meal. The second one, I opened for him. He poured himself a glass, then hands me the bottle and simply said, “enjoy”. This man was certainly not a Playa Hater! I took it to the back area without a clue as to what I was just given honestly. I just saw this bottle as an opportunity to Party and Bullshit while relaxing with the cooks. Before I did, I took a second to look at the bottle. The bottle itself was quite heavy, and the label was so detailed and extremely thick. Even the most Notorious Thugs would recognize there was something special about this bottle of wine. So, I feel its only right I give you fair Warning before you hurt yourself trying to get your hands on a bottle of this.

I poured myself a glass as I proceeded to googled this wine. As the results of my search came up, the look on my face probably went from thinking to myself, You’re Nobody immediately to Gimme the Loot! I almost dropped my phone when I saw the price tag on this bottle of grapes. It certainly did not make it to the back area or get shared. This was for Big Poppa to enjoy to all by my lonesome. The Machine Gun Funk that was coming out of the glass had me Hypnotized. I could smell some dark fruits, black pepper, smoke, and dare I say, hydroponics? For those lost I’m hurt honestly, but for lack of a better word, weed, really good weed! I didn’t want to take my nose out of the glass. When I did, my brain was begging for One More Chance to smell it again.

On the sip was a Kick In the Door entry into my taste buds. These flavors didn’t just get sipped. It treated my mouth like it was a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft with the best view. It was moving in furniture, hanging pictures, ordering cable, all of that. It got real cozy as it sat comfortably on the pallet. I knew that flavor wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Flavors of ripe, dark berries first hit my tongue like gushers gummy candies when you first start to eat them. It was Juicy to say the least. Those fruit flavors were soon after followed by some toasted almond flavor. I then got a mesquite, peppery spice that some Syrahs tend to have. That led to a sweet oak finish that was quite Unbelievable. This wine is so damn tasty, you could even taste the Flavor in Your Ear. (Rest in Peace to the late great Craig Mack)

What’s Beef to a wine like this? When it comes to food pairing for this Shiraz, the Sky’s the Limit. Red meat, white meat, pasta, fish, dessert; this wine does it all.

They may say “Mo Money, Mo Problems”, but when you have wine like this laying around, that’s a good problem to have. Now all I hope for is to one day, have that Old Thing Back. Until then, back to the Everyday Struggle. Due to an untimely death, I’m forced to live in a world with very limited Notorious B.I.G. music and due to micro-production, a very limited “For the Love of it All” wine. Oh, cruel world, I’m Ready to Die.
