Third Times a Charm - The Nike Kyrie III

Rarely is a third installment of anything a success or even a great idea. And honestly at my immediate memory the only 3s I can remember being instantly great are the Jordan III, LeBron III, Penny III, Tech Challenge III, and Rocky III. Kyrie Irving is looking to add his name to that list with the Kyrie III. After the success of his first two signature shoes he is back with his brand new shoe. This will be icing on the cake for Irving in a year that saw him winning his first NBA Championship, an Olympic gold medal, and showing the world he is among the elite talents in the league. At first sight the shoe seems to be a balance and blend of performance and style. Also, as an owner of some of the dopest versions of both of the predecessors this is something I am happy to see. I am glad to see the shoe is something that still has casual appeal.  It’s well understood that the initial intent for all of these shoes are for the court or respective sport. But, we all know the majority of purchases are being made by those not looking to wear them for performance. With that said, the Kyrie III has continued its reputation as a very versatile shoe.  Designed to be “Tailored to his game” the III is rounding up to have the most sneaker tech of any of his signatures. The III features an integrated forefoot, traction pods, Flywire, a curved outsole and a Zoom Air unit. The new signature definitely plays to Kyrie’s speed, agility, and ability to instantly change direction which we as fans get to enjoy as he destroys defender’s ankles night in and night out. The biggest part that stands out for me with this shoe is the personal touch with this signature. The shoe takes many queues from Kyrie’s personal life, such as tributes to his late mother, and his daughter; as well as some of what drives him. These queues can be noticed all throughout the shoe. The silhouette has many of Easters eggs that are very reminiscent of how some of the Jordan models contained moments of MJ’s life and career. Beyond the aesthetics and performance factors the shoe is still moderately priced as well at $120, which is also a great selling point. The first colorway releasing is the Black/Ice model, and will be available December 26th. The perfect way to close out a milestone year and just in time for the holidays. So make sure take some of that gift money and look to pick these up because I have a strong feeling they will be going quickly.
