Tesla - How Elon Continues to Blow Our Mind

Over the past few months, even year to be honest, we have been feasting on a lot that Elon Musk has been throwing our way. We have laughed at his The Boring Company venture, even as he started to make a feasible push into quicker transportation a.k.a. Hyperloop. We even shrugged as SpaceX started finding more and more success, catching the eye of more than just NASA. Elon even got involved with the Puerto Rico debacle sending the Tesla Powerwall and Powerack to aid with the recovery process. Of course Tesla has always been the darling with it’s vehicles bringing us earned back orders and prime reviews from it’s clients. Yet, it all felt like it was leading to something more, something new. Rightfully so last night reminded us that Elon is not done yet.

In a much anticipated move, Tesla unveiled the Tesla Semi, an innovation in a world that hasn’t seen much change in years. The trucking industry is still a very essential part of the world we live in, but still deals with diesel engine and inefficient trucks. Tesla Semi is a breath of fresh air. The Semi is supposed to go from 0-60 in about 5 seconds, eclipsing the 15 seconds of a standard diesel truck. On top of that, with an 80,000 pound load it takes 20 seconds, as opposed to the standard 1 minute. The truck is the epitome of technology, giving the driver unobstructed stairs, two touchscreen displays and connectivity for fleet management. With Megachargers that add 400 miles in 30 minutes, the future is now. Wait, that’s not it. The Semi has enhanced auto pilot, automatic emergency braking, automatic lane keeping, and event recording. And if they are traveling in a convoy? Oh yeah the rest will be able to autonomously follow the lead.

Yeah, that’s a lot to take in. I know some people will look at that and glaze over the need, but trust me this is all important. The efficiency of the Semi coupled with the decrease in mechanical deficiencies and more monitoring, we have a very bright future for an industry that accounts for 10 billion tons of freight and employees over 4 million truck drivers.

Tesla couldn’t just leave us in the air with just the Semi. They had to save a little cherry for the top of the cake. That cherry was named the Roadster. The Roadster is a dream, going 0-60 in 1.9 seconds and 0-100 in 4.2 seconds. That is just plain nuts. And that is just the BASE model. Put that together with a 200 kWh battery that gives you 630 miles of travel. It tops out at 250 MPH and will retail between $200,000 to $250,000 come 2020. Insanity at it’s best.

Elon always knows how to get us going, and man did he do good. As the Semi is launching in 2019 and the Roadster in 2020, I think it’s easy to ask; when can we test them out?
