When & how did you get started with your music career?
I’ve been pretty theatrical my whole life! I was never shy about being in the spotlight, and always loved to put on a show, make people laugh, and overall make people happy. I started starring in school and local town plays as a kid, while taking dance lessons. I loved to sing, would write poetry, and put my name in all of Lil Kim’s raps. Not to mention, I also come from a very musical family. My mom plays the keys, and my Dad is the lead vocalist in a band and plays a number of instruments. He is in a band with his brother and his nephew, who is one of the most talented drummers, who plays with me as well. My grandparents sang and were involved in theater too, so you get the point! Our family parties are always and have always been a treat. Music has just always been a natural part of my life.
Who are your musical inspirations?
For sure my Dad! I know a lot of the classics because of him. My dad is just pretty dope overall, so I guess I get it from him! Also my producer and big brother, Shy Boogs has always been a huge mentor and inspiration to me. Some others include Lil Kim, 2Pac, Nas, and The Beatles.
What kind of music do you listen to today?
Everything! I’m not stuck in one genre. I go from Hip Hop to EDM, to Trap to R&B, pop, oldies, you name it!
If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?
Stripping! (laughing). Honestly, I don’t know. If I had to answer, I would say probably jumping from building to building fighting crime!
Do you play any instruments?
Yes, the guitar. I’m not the best, but I’m getting better. I’m also very adept at juggling yoyos!
What do you think about when you’re performing?
Everyone in the audience being naked! Just kidding (laughing). I don’t really think to be honest with you. I’m just totally submerged in the moment and in the performance.
For our readers who have never heard your music, explain it in 5 words?
Soul, energy, love, hate, and sex.
Do you have an album out currently, or do you have one being released in the near future?
My debut album, ‘Valentine,’ will be available on iTunes on September 23rd. I am UBER excited about it! I put every strand of my being into this project and it is truly coming from my heart to yours. I hope my fans and the audience all love it because it means the world to me. It is literally my heart and soul in music form.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I am going on a 27 city tour in the fall opening for Mike Stud, which I’m super excited for. My first single, “Lord Have Mercy” I’m sure will be released by the time your audience is reading this. I’m going to be bombing the web with music videos, content, and fun stuff while we’re on the road. My official album release party is September 25th at The Bitter End in Manhattan, and I’m also filming for a TV show in the near future. Many big tings for 2014! Much love to Social Magazine for all of their support.
