Is Marko Stout Reinventing Pop Art?

Art is generally seen as timeless, yet throughout history artists have made it a point to harken back to previous styles and movements. Current artists such as Lady Gaga and Jeff Koons have recently revisited themes from the pop movement of the 1960s, made popular by Andy Warhol and Lichtenstein. The most recent multimedia reinvention of this style is currently being offered by the popular New York artist Marko Stout.

Pop artists like Warhol and Koons are famous for exploring the commercial side of commerce and celebrity whereas Stout reinvents the pop style offering a more raw, gritty, in your face type of work, revealing the darker side urban life, a style art critics are calling industrial pop.

Much like Andy Warhol, Marko Stout is not limited by subjects or medium. Recognized as a true multimedia artist, his works include experiment film, prints, photography, sculptures and music. Stout’s most recent Miami show at the Wynham Modern Art Gallery included a series of his art films projected on suspended LED monitors alongside a collection of his latest print works on autumn flanked by his giant vibrant sculptures of faceless women.

Last April, Marko Stout made news with his record breaking sale of colossal female figurative sculptures and a series of original prints to a prominent Berlin nightclub owner at the ArtExpo Show in New York City. This sale was the largest at the show and one of the biggest in the long history of the Expo.

Marko Stout was also highlighted in a recent Food and Beverage Magazine article after The SoHo Grill, a trendy New York eatery, purchased several of his prints for their current bar and dining room makeover.

Stout will be returning to New York City later this year for his latest solo exhibition hosted by the Art Nation Gallery in Times Square. The show will include works from his current “Erotic Dreams” collection and selected pieces from past exhibits. This show is anticipated to be one of the hottest art shows of New York’s upcoming fall season. The exhibition will preview to collectors and invited guests on 10/20/16 and opening to the public on the following day. There will also be a limited showing of Stout’s selected works at the Rivington SoHo gallery in downtown New York City 8/31/16 – 9/05/16.

Marko Stout’s reinvention of the pop art movement has also excited many younger fans, as he enjoys extraordinary popularity among the millennial generation, many of whom waited on long hot Miami lines to view the “Erotic Dreams” exhibition last June at the Wynham Modern Art Gallery and posted numerous comments throughout social media- asking the same question, Is Marko Stout the next Andy Warhol?
