I sit here at 2:00AM zoning to Blue Chips 7000 reflecting on the work our friends at Nike and Nike NYC have done this year. It has been an amazing year for events and get togethers for the brand and this past week was no different. Kith is the venue, our guest is Roger Federer, and the focus is the latest Jordan and Federer collaboration. What more could you really ask for? The vibe, energy and setting are perfect; and the timing is impeccable. The U.S. Open is literally around the corner and this limited release will be perfect for the avid tennis fan or the casual fan who is a sneaker enthusiast.

The Zoom Vapor RF is back this time with another twist on a classic Jordan colorway. We have seen both the White Cement and Black Cement pairs in the past; and for 2017, we will be given a Fire Red pair set for global release in September. The Pop Up is featured at Kith SoHo until Sunday the 27th. Nike has described the space as:

“Paying homage to the greatest tennis player of all time with RF19 at KITH SoHo, a pop-up space dedicated to the legacy of Roger Federer as chases his 20th major title in New York City. RF19 sees the release of Federer’s latest NikeCourt New York City Collection and a new iteration of the highly anticipated NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan 3 in “Fire Red.” Kith’s SoHo flagship transforms into an immersive experience that features Federer’s favorite Nike sneakers on display, exclusive Kith Treats flavors, and customizable t-shirt designs.”

So all of this sparks two thoughts for me. The first is, we are all aware of his on courts, but where does the Roger Federer’s line fall on the Mount Rushmore of tennis shoes? The second is extremely simple, what is next? So let us address the first question. Yes, Federer’s signature line is on the Mount Rushmore, but where does it sit? We have it second, unbiasedly behind Andre Agassi. The third would be the Stan Smith; the fourth is a preference toss-up between the Air Trainer 1, and the Le Coq Noah. That is phenomenal company to be sitting in, but compared to the rest Federer is still going so there is still some time to move into that number one spot. I personally think it will difficult to knock Andre off the top spot due to the impact of his iconic designs as well as their influence on future Nike shoes; but we can never call what is going to happen. Now on to the second question, what is next? That is what really has me intrigued. There are some other very iconic Jordan colorways that would be great on the Zoom Vapor RF. Now many of them would not be Jordan III schemes, but some would truly be great.

  1. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan V “Grape”
  2. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan III “Mocha”
  3. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan VI “Black Infrared”
  4. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan V “Laney”
  5. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan I “Carolina”
  6. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan XI “Cool Grey”
  7. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan XIII “Flint”
  8. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan XVII+ “Lightning”
  9. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan VII “Bordeaux”
  10. NikeCourt Zoom Vapor RF x Air Jordan II “BIN”

Did we miss any colorways you think would look great on this shoe? Where do you think Roger Federer’s shoes stand amongst other tennis shoes? Will you be picking up this latest collab from Federer and Jordan? Feel free to let us know.
