FDA Approves MDMA for Large Scale Trials

That isn’t a misprint. The FDA, which has an incredibly archaic method to classifying narcotics, has approved Phase 3 trials for MDMA. MDMA, a drug that many know as ecstasy, has passed the elusive Phase 2 which has been a constant thorn in the side of the pro marijuana legislation. Marijuana which is still set as a level 1 narcotic has never been able to make it to Phase 3. This is very shocking since marijuana has been fighting for FDA approval for the past three decades and has been criticized for not showing any signs of medical use (which is even more murky since a plethora of states have already approved it for medical, recreationally, or both), even though we have seen there is more than enough evidence like this, this, and this.

A few months ago, Rick Doblin of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies was featured prominently on the popular Joe Rogan Podcast discussing the potential approval from the FDA.

At the time there was a handful of eye rolls at this potential as MDMA has been labeled a party drug for almost it’s entire existence. Yet, even though marijuana is now legal in various different ways in more than half the United States, it will have to wait quite a while before it too has it’s day on the FDA approval list. One of the biggest blocks for marijuana is the fact that there are a multitude of different strands and they tend to focus on one ‘generic makeup’ for each drug. Whether this stance will change or not is yet to be seen. It seems that big pharma still hasn’t found a viable way of profiteering from marijuana, and until then we have to just wait till MDMA hits prescriptions in the next few years.
