A Drinking Man's Game: Jackson Morgan “Southern Cream Salted Caramel Liqueur”

Have you ever been stranded in a liquor store with no clue what to buy? Or even worse have you ever taken a risk on something and hated it once you got home and opened it up? I am going to try to make your life a bit easier by removing that hassle. I’m Jay Larkin, your resident connoisseur of spirits and brewers, and welcome to A Drinking Man’s Game. This is where I do all the leg work and help you not only find that great buy for the weekend at the liquor store, but also give you advice on how to it’s best enjoyed and what it may pair with.

So I ask, what’s a Friday night without perusing bottle labels at the liquor store? Definitely not the start to a solid night in my opinion. Tonight I’m on a mission for something smooth, so my journey naturally started with whiskey or our bourbon aisle, but I wasn’t looking for the usual brands. I wanted something different, I was in the mood to take a risk. That’s when my eyes fixated on a frosted bottle with an unfamiliar name, Jackson Morgan. I inadvertently found myself in the whiskey liqueur section. This was nothing to fret about as whiskey liqueurs have always been a clutch buy around this time of year, and this was no different. Now this isn’t your average whiskey liqueur. Underneath the Jackson Morgan in black bold letters read, “Southern Cream Salted Caramel Liqueur” – I knew I was going to enjoy this. So here is a little known fact about me, my affinity for salted caramel can be directly attributed to Starbucks Salted Caramel Frappuccinos. So much so, I’ve considered purchasing a pair of Uggs and yoga pants, just because it seems to make it that much more enjoyable. I’m just saying, how could you not enjoy anything caramel? I knew I had to give this drink a try.

Now lets talk about the drink itself. I chose to grab the crystal for this one, because I had to savor the moment. From the warble of liquor being poured, I instantly got a whiff of sweet caramel. The taste was phenomenal, no aftertaste, far from too sweet, and the flavors complimented the liquor. I mean I drank this and immediately got flashbacks of that Grandma’s bottom of the purse classic, Werther’s Butter and Cream Hard Candies. Pouring neat for the first round of course, but for the second round I opted to add ice. This is what I was searching for honestly. The ice added to the smoothness of the drink but did not cause the drink to taste watered down. This time I chose to pass on chilling the beverage as to avoid it thickening which I felt would have taken away from the drink. Plus, being frank I was enjoying it too much on the rocks.

Priced at only $25 Jackson Morgan “Southern Cream Salted Caramel” is definitely a go to for the fall season. Whether you are a lighter drinker or versed this will definitely be a drink you will enjoy. So, if you are looking for something to kick off your Friday evening, or a night cap that with your dessert on a night in, stop at your local spot and pick up Jackson Morgan’s “Southern Cream Salted Caramel Liqueur” it’s a delicious gem.
